Breast Cancer Symptoms Can Be A Sign Of Breast Cancer

Details About Breast Cancer Symptoms, Risks And Treatments Of Breast Cancer

Breast cancer symptoms are the most common cancer symptoms among women. In your lifetime, you have a high probability of noticing one or more breast cancer symptoms and approximately a 10 percent chance of developing breast cancer.

But, if you have certain risk factors for it, like a family history of breast cancer or the symptoms of breast cancer, poor diet, etc. your risk is actually much higher.

The number of women dying from breast cancer and the symptoms of breast cancer over the past 15 years has decreased somewhat.

This is mostly due to the fact that more women are having mammograms, and dramatically improving their overall health due to nutrition and exercise.

Early breast cancer symptoms

usually do not cause pain or discomfort. In fact, when breast cancer symptoms first develop, you may not notice them at all.

But as breast cancer develops it will cause some breast cancer symptoms that can be an indication of breast cancer.

While there are no clear symptoms of breast cancer, here are some of the more common breast cancer symptoms you need to be aware of:

  • A lump or thickening in or near your breast or in the underarm area. This lump may feel firm and may sometimes be accompanied by pain or tenderness, but not always.

  • A change in the size, shape or appearance of your breast is a potential symptom of breast cancer.

  • A discharge from the nipple which can be yellowish-green in appearance.

  • A change in the color or feel of the skin of your breast, areola, or nipple.

  • Redness, peeling or scaling of the breast and nipple area; or prominent visibility of veins on the surface of the breast.

If you notice any of the above mentioned breast cancer symptoms you should immediately see your doctor. While these breast cancer symptoms do not confirm the existence of breast cancer, only you doctor can tell for sure.

"What Causes Breast Cancer &
Breast Cancer Symptoms?"

In simple terms, cancer is a disease in which abnormal cells basically go out of control. When there are enough of the cells a tumour begins to form. If the cells then break away from the tumour they can travel throughout your body and settle in any other organ.

Sometimes your genes can become damaged and this can result in breast cancer or breast cancer symptoms. These genes can be inherited from your parents. But in actual fact few forms of cancer are actually the result of inherited genes.

Your breast is composed of fatty tissue and glands. Breast cancer & breast cancer symptoms usually begin with a single cell that mutates in the lobule or duct. These are the two main areas where cells are rapidly dividing during a normal menstrual cycle.

With this occurring on a regular basis over a span of many years, there is a much greater chance for some sort of mutation to occur and develop into breast cancer symptoms and then breast cancer itself.

Most symptoms of breast cancer are not detected until after menopause but it is commonly believed to actually develop much earlier.

Breast cancer and the symptoms of breast cancer are most often found in women over the age of 50. With this age group developing more than 75 percent of all breast cancer cases.

If you have previously had breast cancer in one breast, and there is a high possibility that you will get breast cancer again in the opposite breast. In addition, if you have a very close relative with breast cancer or the symptoms of breast cancer, your risk is also increased.

It seems that women who have children before they turn the age of 30, have a lesser risk of contracting the symptoms of breast cancer. Many of the experts believe this happens because of the age when women begin menstruating and their first pregnancy.

Research is now finding a direct link between certain diet factors in the increased risk of the symptoms of breast cancer. A poor diet and lack of exercise effects the development of breast cancer by promoting the growth of cancer cells.

The symptoms of breast cancer usually start in the tissues of the breasts. While there are different types of breast cancer, the up to seventy-five percent are ductal carcinoma. With this, breast cancer starts in the cells of the ducts that enable the flow of breast milk.

If you notice the symptoms of breast cancer on a mammogram or a lump in your breast, or other changes in your breast, they can be caused by either cancer or some other problem.

So what do you do if you do notice any breast cancer symptoms?

First, contact your doctor to thoroughly discuss and review your situation including your personal and family medical history. As with most medical problems, early detection is key.

In addition your doctor may order one or more of the following tests:

  • Palpation. Your doctor will be able to tell a lot about a lump in your breast and can make a determination as a result of its size, texture and whether or not it moves easily. Benign lumps often feel different from cancerous ones.

  • Mammography. X-rays of your breast can give your doctor important information about any breast lumps that may be present. If a spot on the mammogram looks suspicious or is not clear, additional x-rays may be needed.

  • Ultrasonography. Using high-frequency sound waves, ultrasonography has the ability to show your doctor whether a lump is solid or filled with fluid.

If breast cancer is found your doctor may refer you to a clinic that specializes in treating breast cancer. Treatment will usually begin within a few weeks after the diagnosis.

So what are the treatment options for breast cancer and the symptoms of breast cancer?

  • Removal of a lump in your breast through surgery. This procedure is commonly known as a lumpectomy. Another surgery called a mastectomy involves your entire breast being surgically removed.

  • Radiation therapy can be used to try and eliminate the tumor or cancerous cells in the tissues.

  • Chemotherapy is used to try and attempt to destroy any cells that have the potential to become cancerous, that may still exist in tissues of your breast.

  • Some prescription medications can be used to try and prevent estrogen-binding that can lead to breast cancer.
