Weight Loss And Reading Food Labels

Since I first began trying to lose weight I've been very interested in learning how to properly read food labels. When I go shopping I examine every label closely and I find so much deception that I can hardly believe it.

My question is, how do you learn every aspect of what's contained in a food label? Where do you go to find out the truth, other then the odd time there's a news story about it? I want to stay on top of it and it seems like new products come out so fast that you don't have a chance to learn properly.

Food Labels Are Tough To Understand When It Comes To Weight Loss
by:

Yes, when it comes to food labels there is a lot of misinformation. There isn't really one single resource to learn how to effectively read all food labels. With the foundation of understanding the most common loopholes in the laws, and the most common methods of deception and food labeling, you can become adept at separating many mis-marketed foods from those that are truly good for you.

2% milk is a nice place to start understanding food labels. Look at the number of calories per serving then look at the calories from fat. If you can recognize that the labelers get away with this by using fat by volume rather than fat by calories, and most fresh foods are predominantly water (which doesn't have any calories at all), you'll be able to identify yogurts, ice cream, cheese, meats and other foods that capitalize on this opportunity to mislead in the hope of selling more products.
